Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Only a few days past my new apartment dance and I find myself doing a new shuffle. I'm hitting the pavement AGAIN in search of an apartment. What happened, you ask. Well, after telling all other potential future roomies that I did not need to see their place. I was told by my, now future ex roomie that he found a one bedroom. Mind you I point blank asked him if he was planning to move or if he had put in an application elsewhere. Of course he appeased me with how he loved his place and would never move.

Now I'm stuck between trying to get another person interested in an apartment that I don't have so that we can go to the landlord and sign a lease and looking for just a whole new deal. I've already contacted the landlady and told her my deal. If I can't find someone to bite by September 1st then she needs to find new tenants on her own. So right now, I have an exclusive lock on the apartment provided I can find a roomie. Confusing yet? Try living it!

Welcome to San Francisco apartment hunting. I knew it was too easy!

New Apartment Dance!!!

New Apartment Dance! New Apartment Dance!

That's right, I finally got off my lazy bum and found a new apartment. All the fun that I was having in my current place was just too much for me. Even after the sinking toilet, I was staying the course after rationalizing how much more it could sink until yesterday morning. Yesterday morning I walked into my bathroom and there was a leak from the ceiling!

Well, that was enough for me, I decided right then and there that I was moving. There was just too many apartments and no rent cheap enough for me to continue living in 3rd world poverty. Armed with a blast of energy, I went to craigslist and found 3 apartments within my price range!! After having conversations with all three, I set up appointments throughout the week. Last night was my first appointment.

The apartment was lovely! It's a 2 story apartment with a little deck. The room for rent is quite large and has a good light. My future roomie smokes, but is an outside smoker just like me. He works in telecom and has already agreed to help me move. He's also from the midwest(Iowa). I'm so pleased that I was able to find a place within 12 hours of finally deciding and am convinced that I needed to wait it out to have such a smooth transision.

Yippee!! New Apartment Dance!!

Vegas Baby Vegas!

I really need to update this thing more. I promise to do better!

Last weekend I went to Las Vegas. The trip rates a mixed review. Flying one day after the whole "no liquid" policy resulted in checking my weekend/overhead compartment luggage. Needless to say, I wasn't the only smarty pants who did this and instead of needing the 3 hours of buffer I gave myself, I was now in my terminal with about 2 hours and 45 minutes of free time with about 1,000 other people. My friend and I went to thte sports bar and proceeded to watch the Bears v. 49ers pre season game and get hammered. Couple that with 2 more drinks on the flight and you have one happy little drunk hitting the casino on Friday night.

Snippets of Friday (all that I can remember) -

Hitting it big on the $0.25 slots!! Then losing it all after feeding a machine over and over betting $15 a roll.

Yelling at a tall man running past that "There's no running in the casino" only to be told that the tall man was Vince Vaughn. My drunken reaction, you ask? "Who's Vince Vaughn?"

Saturday was better, I spent most of it sleeping and having a DT fit. After spending a few hours on the Beach at Mandalay Bay I had successfully sweated out all remaining alcohol. We then hit the Shakira concert. She is a great performer but I would have enjoyed the concert so much more if I got at least half of it in English. After the concert, I found out that Justin Timberlake was playing in the hotel. DAMN! Why couldn't I have had THAT ticket?

Sunday was nice and lazy. My friend and I went to a bunch of other casinos, here's some takes -

Hooter's isn't worth ANYBODY's time

Tropicana is like Old Vegas in the middle of new Vegas

MGM Grand is way too dark, you never know what time it is and I was bummed that the lions weren't out

NY NY is my new fave place. I'm totally staying there the next time I come. They have an ESPN Zone and a piano bar!!

Coming back was a bit of a drag. First our plane left late, then we arrived even later. And the cherry on top? My friend's luggage was lost. All's well that ends well, he received a call the next day and got it back.

Laziness is the New Black

This morning as I got off the train, I stepped into the queue to take the escalator up to the street level. For some reason there seemed to be more people than usual and the line was moving EXTREMELY slow. So I decided to do something drastic. I stepped out of the queue and went to the manual stairs! Shocking I know. It was only about 75 stairs and a nice little cardio for me.

I think the most shocking was that once I reached the top, I was slightly out of breath. After 75 stairs, I could FEEL the burn. I was truly shocked and a bit sad at how out of shape I am. Keep in mind that this is the same girl who plans on walking 3 miles in six weeks for the American Heart Association. I’ve decided to walk up the stairs every day and try to work in a walk after work a couple days a week.

As I type this and think about the last time I truly exercised, I realize that it’s been at least 2 years. Thanks to public transportation and technology, I am the banner child of laziness. It’s like it’s the new black always in fashion and always in season. It’s a good thing that the escalator line was so long today. It would have sucked to have suffered a heart attack at the Heart Walk.

Pimp Slapped

I was running late this morning as I prepared myself for work. Usually I would panic since one of my responsibilities is to open the office and on Fridays I also get breakfast. However, I had ordered breakfast to be delivered and decided that a few minutes wouldn’t be too bad. So off I went in my train that I calculated would get me to work at 8:06 am instead of 8:00 am.

What I had not anticipated was how taking a train 15 minutes later than my usual time would do to my comfort level during the ride. Usually my train is fairly packed but it is a comfortable ride and is two car lengths. The one I took this morning was packed when I got on near the end of the line and only one car length. It was truly packed halfway through the ride. And the ride itself was elongated due to a “traffic jam” in the tunnel. Essentially all the trains showed up at the same time and we crawled through 5 stops.

During all this fun people began to, understandably, get hot. I was counting my blessings to at least have a seat when the most unexpected thing happened. I got pimp slapped. There was a guy trying to take off his jacket and apparently my face was in his way. Having never been pimp slapped before, I wasn’t sure what the proper etiquette one should engage upon once the slap has happened. I am sure that me bellowing “WHAT THE HELL!” is not the proper reaction to such a hit. I did get a very sincere apology and a pretty funny conversation out of it. Unfortunately, I also generated laughs from the guy at which I was making goo-goo eyes.
